Shannon K. Briggs is an Associate Attorney with DDV Law, Ltd. where she is a tenacious advocate for elders and people with disabilities. Ms. Briggs devotes her legal practice to Elder Law, including Special Needs and Estate Planning, Guardianships, Probate & Estate Administration.
Dedicated to the Job:
Ms. Briggs serves as the legislative liaison to the Chicago Bar Association Probate Law Practice Committee. In this capacity, she analyzes, drafts and makes recommendations concerning legislation to the bar. Attorney Briggs is also a Guardian ad Litem, frequently appointed by judges in Cook County advocate for and act in the best interests of respondents in guardianship hearings. Ms. Briggs is an accredited attorney for preparation, presentation, and prosecution of claim for veterans’ benefits before the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Ms. Briggs earned her J.D. from IIT Chicago-Kent College of law graduating cum laude. Prior to law school, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. While in law school, Ms. Briggs was selected to serve as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Tommy Brewer.

Shannon was recently published in IICLE’s – Adult Guardianships, Advance Directives, and Mental Health Law 2021 Edition, where she co-authored Chapter Two: The Appointment Process. Ms. Briggs also serves on the faculty of the National Business Institute where she educates other attorneys on the probate process and tax issues arising from guardianship and probate cases. Shannon is an active member of the Chicago Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the South Suburban Estate Planning Council. A life-long Chicago resident, Shannon enjoys traveling, skiing, and spending time with her friends and family.
