Planning your own funeral is probably something you really aren’t looking forward to doing anytime soon, but planning ahead can be extremely helpful to you and your loved ones. Having a plan will help assist them in knowing your wishes and can ease the stress of having to do so when they are looking to cope with your loss. Here are a few steps you can take to help plan.
Choosing and naming the person in charge: One of the first steps you should consider is naming and having a person in mind to make the funeral arrangements. You should do this on your Will.
Funeral Home and Memorial Services: Write out detailed instructions on how you would like your remains to be handled. Do you wish to be buried or cremated? Do you want a funeral or a memorial service? Would you like an open service or just close friends and family? Do you want to wear a specific outfit or have music playing? Being as detailed as possible will help your family with arranging and planning of your funeral.
What can I afford?: Funerals can be costly but planning ahead will save your loved ones a lot of heartache and stress. Shop around and make arrangements so that your wishes are meet and a budget is set. Sometimes POD’s are not the best way to pay off your funeral expense, but a prepaid burial plan that is funded with insurance is a good option. If the funeral home is not still operating, your funds will remain available.
