It is no surprise that with each passing year it becomes more difficult to remember things.  This slight decline in memory is a part of the normal aging process, as our brains begin to process information more slowly. However, there are others, some of whom may be your own loved ones, who will become afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. At some point, your loved one may require specialized attention in a memory care community.

A memory care community is a facility that cares for individuals diagnosed with memory conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.  When these conditions begin to have an effect on daily living to the point where the individual is no longer able to care for themselves, memory care may be the solution. Facilities designed for memory care were created with the sole purposed of caring for patients individually while still promoting socialization during meal times and scheduled activities.

A memory care facility usually consists of units within assisted living communities, which offer residents 24-hour support, with programs that ensure safety and maintain quality of life. Residents are housed in private or semi-private rooms and are involved with a number of supervised activities and programs specifically catered to enhancing memory. Many memory care facilities are furnished in such a way to mimic a home-like setting, encouraging residents to treat the facility as their home.
